|(best viewed in 720pHD) my winCE car GPS came with iGo Primo navigation software, which can run with additional satellite or aerial raster imagery underneath the stock vector roads, so I cleaned up some local government aerial ortho-photos of the greater Auckland region and ported them into the proprietary NNG raster format the navigation software can use.
area is about 150km x 130km; the source data was 0.5 metre per pixel resolution; it compressed down to 5.75 gigabytes at around 90% quality settings; the ported high resolution tiles are (0.85 metre per pixel) 16k pixels square per 7.5 arc minute (0.125 degree) area, and less than 128 megabytes each
the video shows some zooms into a few areas around the greater Auckland region and (at 3m50s) a simulated turn-by-turn guided route. Real world performance is much smoother.
